Public Participation in Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) in China

Public participation is the privilege of citizens. As direct casualties, the public are more sensitive to the changes of the environmental quality than any other, therefore, the establishment of public participation mechanism can improve the capacity of acquiring base information and underlying information of the team engaging in EIA. Moreover, public participation in the environmental legislation, the execution of the environmental law and the environmental supervision is the center of open environmental journal, and it can ensure the transition of environmental management from “government by individual” to “government by law”. So it is necessary to introduce the mechanism of public participation.
