Environmental Impact Assessment
of Gelevard Reservoir Dam on
Nekaroud Watershed

The environmental impact assessment of Gelevard reservoir dam began by analyzing the existing environmental resources . In this case, the available maps, together with land works were used. In the environmental impact assessment of the Gelevard reservoir dam the incorporating method of Leopold and COLD matrix was used. In the method , all the implementing activities, relating to the dam construction, were predicted , and a list of the impacted environmental resources, following the land visits, was made ready. The negative impact of each activity on the environmental resources was, then, evaluated and the results were studied. In the method, the environmental resources, falling under the much and very much negative impact, have been identified. then, the activities , led to the distraction of these resources, were recognized and explained. In the end, the article recommends simple and implement able management strategies and mechanisms in order to mitigate the negative impacts resulted from implementing this project. The correct environmental management of Nekaroud watershed basin, thus , depends on the careful and complete implementation of the project.
