Protection of environment form adverse effects of human activities. Protection  of human communities from environmental contaminants and protection of public health are among missions of environmental health engineering as a branch of engineering.

Huge and unique project of “Haft Bagh” is considerable as one of the important national projects. This project which is comprised of highway, villas and gardens, covers a 25.5 km distance between Kerman and Mahan is considered as a human interference case in the environment .To prevent the probable environment impacts of “Haft Bagh” project, a comprehensive research and assessment have been conducted during 1994-1999.

Considering the identification lf present status, environmental impact assessment results of the project shows that the preferred working alternative is the best of four following proposed alternatives:

  1. Use of existing Kerman – Mahan road (line).
  2. End of Bahman 22 boulevard line directly to Shah - Nematollah_e_Vali square in Mahan (shortest line) .
  3. Joopari three-way line and passing from constructed forest of west Kerman plain and ultimately opposite to Bagh of Shahzadeh in Mahan.
  4. End of Shahab avenue to Bagh of Shahzadeh in Mahan (preferred working alternative). Proposed alternative has more pluses in comparison to other three alternatives having 167 positive impacts and 88 negative impacts favors no-action alternatives with 16 positive impacts and 91 negative impacts. This preference is so significant that elimination of the project and abandonment of the region environment will intensify its natural destruction. Implementation of the project with consideration to the suggested recommendations regarding control of possible environmental contaminants is an efficient step toward securing sustainable environment and will lead to protection of environment. Therefore, completion of the project is strictly recommended, above mentioned recommendations are as follow:

1)      Construction of septic tanks with subsurface effluent disposal practice in villas.

2)      The transit of heavy motorized vehicles through the highway should be stopped.

3)      Disposal of solid wastes should be conducted through resource recovery and domestic or municipal composting practices.

4)      The proposed tree – lined highway reduce unpleasant noises should be considered.

5)      Safe distance form high – voltage electric power transmission lines.

6)      Use of drip irrigation system is proposed to cut down water consumption.
